The difference we’re making
- Funding an innovative lab set-up to look at the role of the body’s nervous system in controlling blood pressure
- Studying healthy people to build understanding of the body’s mechanisms to control blood pressure
- Working towards an end goal of new therapies that will allow patients to receive the treatment most suited to their condition
- Leading multiple studies assessing innovative new treatments - including a novel device that electrically stimulates blood vessels in the neck
- Generating important evidence of the effectiveness of these new treatments - with a long-term vision to identify better methods to match patient and treatment

We’ve also funded research into the effects of “renal denervation” in patients with high blood pressure.
This is a technique where a set of nerves in the kidney are blocked. Blocking the signals sent to the brain by these nerves may help to lower blood pressure in patients where normal treatments aren’t working.
With the help of our funding, and thanks to his pioneering new work, Dr Lobo is now known internationally for his expertise in novel treatments - often being the "go-to" man for patients struggling to control high blood pressure.
