The Royal London Hospital was founded in 1740 under the name the London Infirmary. After a couple of changes of name and location, the hospital as we know it opened in 2012.
The hospital is located in the vibrant area of Whitechapel, serving a community of over 1m people. It joined the Barts Health NHS Trust in 2012.
The Royal London Hospital offers a full range of local and specialist services. It houses one of the largest children’s hospitals in the UK with one of London’s busiest paediatric Accident and Emergency Department.

In 2023, as part of our Barts 900 Campaign, we’re fundraising to build a brand new Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at The Royal London Hospital. The CRF will allow scientists at Barts Health and Queen Mary University of London to develop innovative new therapies, engage more patients in research, and substantially improve patient outcomes and clinical care.
