Virginia Govoni MPhil

Virginia oversees the Charity’s portfolio of grants with a focus on cardiovascular, dentistry and population sciences and she is the first point of contact for investigators under this theme.

Prior to joining us, Virginia managed a multisite EU funded project on Diabetes and Pregnancy and coordinated clinical studies in cardiovascular and nutrition sciences.

She holds a Masters Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Bologna and an MPhil in Diabetes and Nutritional Sciences from King’s College London.

Maurice Darding PhD

Maurice oversees all the Charity’s portfolio of grants with a focus on cancer, inflammation and endocrinology.

Before joining the Charity, Maurice worked in research funding at Cancer Research UK, having previously worked at UCL as a post-doctoral researcher on cancer and inflammation.

Maurice holds an MSc in Biomedical Sciences from Utrecht University and obtained his PhD from the Institute of Cancer Research in London.

Alexandra Hicken PhD

Alex is the first point of contact for applicants based at the Blizard Institute, the Barts Health group of hospitals and those wishing to apply to one of Barts Charity’s Fellowship Schemes.

Prior to joining Barts Charity, Alex completed her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at Imperial College London and she holds an MSc from the University of York.

In addition, she was the Executive Director of The Network of Early Career Sustainable Scientists and Engineers.
