The Bank of Montreal Christmas 2019 Donation Drive

This Christmas, Bank of Montreal employees are supporting London’s Lifeline, the Barts Charity Trauma Campaign to transform critical care in the capital.

Traumatic injury, whether from road traffic accidents, falls or violent crime is the leading cause of death for those under 44. Globally, trauma is responsible for 5 million deaths per year, which is more than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. Despite this, trauma medicine receives just 1% of medical funding in the UK.

The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel is Europe’s busiest Major Trauma Centre. The Trauma Team there see 180,000 patients each year, many of whom are critically injured. The world-leading expertise at the Royal London is unparalleled and the trauma surgeons and doctors at the hospital are uniquely positioned to change the face of trauma medicine as we know it. Their proposals will immediately transform emergency medicine in our capital, as well as establishing a new benchmark of global care.

Despite recent advances, 1 in 4 critically injured trauma patients at the Royal London are still dying. Your support this Christmas will pave the way to developing a new generation of facilities and techniques that will reduce mortality by a staggering 60%.

Your support will make such a big difference:

By helping to create the world’s first Specialist Major Haemorrhage Centre, we will see a profound increase in the amount of Londoners surviving their injuries thanks to ground-breaking innovations such as an integrated transfusion laboratory, state-of-the-art blood diagnosis equipment, a dedicated cardiac support service for trauma patients and the UK’s first Trauma Hybrid Operating Suite.
set to become one of the first key funders for the Barts Charity Trauma Campaign that aims to raise £15m to ensure this bold vision can be become a reality. With your help, we can revolutionise trauma medicine and give critically injured Londoners the greatest possible chances of survival.

A message from Professor Karim Brohi

Trauma is a growing issue and we are now faced with tackling the challenge of an increasing number of cases in London year on year. Every day in London, a severely injured person survives traumatic injury that would have died 10 years ago.

There is so much more we need to do to reduce death from trauma and improve the quality of life for those that survive."
