Supporting the local community
Tate & Lyle Sugars have been making sugar and syrup in London for over 140 years and have a long history of supporting the local community. When their local NHS hospitals were impacted by COVID-19, Tate & Lyle Sugars felt it was important to support the workers by donating to our emergency appeal.
This donation will be used to support staff in our hospitals, through wellbeing initiatives like relaxation hubs and practical items like e-bikes for staff to get to and from work safely.
On top of this, Tate & Lyle Sugars also donated sugar sachets to the NHS Nightingale Hospital to ensure that NHS workers could have a sweet cup of tea when they took a break.

A way to say thank you
Hamera Elahi, a Healthcare Play Specialist at the Children’s Rainbow Centre at Newham Hospital regularly bakes cakes for her team.
She says: “These are troubling and stressful times and everybody at Newham Hospital is working so hard. My cakes always go down well so I thought baking was the perfect way to say thank you to my lovely colleagues.
“Thank you so much to the sugar workers at Tate and Lyle for making sure that bakers like me can keep our cakes coming! We are so grateful for their donation to our charity too, which will help colleagues across East London through this crisis.”

Improving the lives of NHS workers
Eager to support their local community, Tate & Lyle employees are working extra shifts at the refinery as the demand for sugar and syrup has increased as people turn to baking to keep themselves busy during lockdown.
