Colleagues take on Three Peaks from their staircases

After Covid-19 cancelled any plans to climb the Three Peaks, colleagues at DEMICA decided to climb the equivalent distance at home.

A huge physical challenge

Colleagues at Fintech company, DEMICA, were planning to take on the tough Three Peaks challenge this year. The team would have scaled the three tallest mountains in the UK – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

Unfortunately, their plans were cancelled due to lockdown, but this didn’t stop them from climbing the distance anyway and fundraising for our Emergency Covid-19 Appeal.

23 mile climb in a week

The team, who work together in the City of London, decided to translate the distance into something they could do from home by climbing up and down their stairs. Each person had no more than a week to complete the equivalent of the 23 mile climb.

“It’s a huge physical challenge,” says Kathryn, one of the team, “but enormously satisfying once completed. Burning off the lockdown calories is a big motivator, but more importantly gaining sponsorship whilst enduring it is the biggest motivation to complete it.”

The height of the Three Peaks challenge was equivalent to 1,474 flights of stairs per person!

A fantastic fundraising tally

So far, the team have raised an incredible £2,000 for our Emergency Covid-19 Appeal.

“Barts’ Covid-19 emergency appeal became our obvious choice to raise money for as St Bartholomew’s Hospital is near our office and it was clear this charity should be the priority for us at this time.

“Whilst we are lucky all our staff have stayed well and not required hospital treatment, we know that could have been very different and we wanted to do all we could to help out. Barts was chosen specifically due to its location to our office, but also all the satellite sites the Barts Health NHS Trust also supports.”

Thank you to the team for raising this fantastic amount for their local NHS Trust.
